ELDAR RUNIC POWERS

Eldar are less at risk to the perils of the warp when they use their psychic powers because they use seer runes. Seer runes are made of wraithbone, a psycho-conductive material that allows an Eldar seer to focus warp energy through it. With seer runes and the innate psychic power that Eldar possess they are possibly the most powerful psykers in the 41st millennium.

Eldar Seers can only use the powers detailed on these pages. They cannot use or learn any powers that are specifically for Imperial psykers, the Adeptus powers.

Learning a Runic Power

This is handled in exactly the same way as for other psykers. However, it can be very difficult indeed for player character Seers to learn any new powers because no non-Seer knows them, or may not even know of their existence. To get round this, a PC Seer could leave his Craftworld with a pouch of runes that he can learn the powers from like an arcane grimoire. Awkward GMs can rule that every time a Seer wishes to learn a particular power, such as the more powerful ones for example, he must go to a Craftworld and learn from a Seer there. After all seer runes can only be got from Craftworlds - you cannot buy them in the local shop! This particular hurdle can be cleared if a Seer PC has Manufacture Seer Rune as this allows the Seer to make Seer Runes.

USING RUNIC POWERS

Eldar Seers have the same psionic system as all the other races, i.e. Int + Cl divided by 2, plus level x 5, with penalties corresponding to the level of power cast (see the Psionic section for details on using psychic powers). However, as Seers use runes to focus the warp energy through, they are at less of a risk from the horrors of the warp should they fail to control the energy.

Because of the seer runes, and the Eldar's innate psychic ability, Seers (including Bone Seer, Spirit Seers, and Warlocks) roll on the following table whenever they fail a Force test. They are still subject to the same restrictions on using psychic powers every 24 hour period.

D100 Result
01-55 The Seer finds it difficult to concentrate on the rune. Seer may try again next round.
56-65 The rune glows slightly as the Seer focuses warp energy through it. Unfortunately the Seer doesn't focus hard enough. The character may try again next round but with a -10 penalty to the Force test.
66-75 The rune glows brightly and burns the Seer's hand for 1 automatic wound (irrespective of any modifiers). The Seer drops the rune and must spend the next D6+3 rounds looking for it, irrespective of what he wants to do - he doesn't want to lose a seer rune!
76-85 The rune glows intensely burning the Seer's hand for D3 automatic wounds (irrespective of any modifiers). The rune dims and cannot be used for D6 hours.
86-95 The rune glows with intense warpfire burning the Seer's hand for D3 automatic wounds (irrespective of any modifiers). The rune dims and cannot be used for D6 days.
96-99 The Seer focuses too much raw warp energy into the rune and in doing so causes it to explode. This causes an instant Chart 4 hit on the body location of the Seer. Everyone standing within 1 metre of the Seer will be hit as if by a frag missile. The runic power can never be used again and must be re-learnt.
00 The Seer unwittingly focuses daemonic energy into the seer rune causing it to instantly explode exactly as above (96-99). However, D3 Lesser Daemons emerge from the explosion to do battle with the Seer and anyone getting in their way. The runic power can never be used again and must be re-learnt.

Destroyed Seer Runes

Seer runes can only be destroyed by a massive surge of warp energy. Seer runes that have been destroyed this way must be replaced and the runic power has to be re-learnt just as if the power was new. In all but the most rare of cases, a Seer will have to journey back to a Craftworld in order to achieve this as wraithbone can only be found on those gigantic spaceships.

Bone Seer, Spirit Seer, and Warlock Powers

Some runic powers are restricted to each particular Seer, either Bone Seers, Spirit Seers, or Warlocks. Powers unique to Bone Seers tend to be very physical, they can shape psychically sensitive objects and even make weapons. Powers unique to Spirit Seers tend to be much more pensive as their main forte is to heal. Powers restricted to Warlocks are the most destructive, as befits their war-like nature. This means that only the right kind of Seer can use the specified power, i.e. a Warlock cannot use powers that only Bone Seers can use, and vice-versa.
